Athleisure; When Did Fitwear Become So Fashionable?
Athleisure is the term used to describe gym clothing, suitable for a whole range of athletic activities, that is also suitable for a range of leisure activities. Clothing that can be worn out and about, as well as to the gym or even the office is what seems to be trending at the moment, and it doesn't look like it's going to be going out of fashion any time soon.
Â
Athleisure offers great style, teamed with ultimate comfort, allowing an extremely versatile wardrobe. No longer do you need to drag your gym kit into work with you to make that spin class on your way home. Manufacturers are striving to blur the lines between active wear and leisure wear, making it less obvious that someone is wearing their gym clothes all day. All you need currently is a few extra accessories to make your outfit appropriate wherever you are, such as a longer coat over your tank top or mirrored sunglasses to your look; no one will be any wiser to your 'hidden gymwear'.Â

Celebrities are helping to promote this latest trend, by frequently being seen in their athleisure. In fact, celebrities are even launching their own ranges, grabbing a piece of the action with the growing trend. Katie Holmes is a perfect example, recently seen wearing leggings and high heels when out and about. The launch of her new company Fabletics has taken by storm too as it suggests outfits for your next gym class or yoga visit. Yoga pants and leggings being seen as suitable now for any workout, and for going out too, it seems that anyone going anywhere could do with joining the Fabletics phenomenon.

Not only are these celebrity brands growing in popularity and variety, but the old school Adidas 3 stripe is coming back in too. Midi dresses, crop tops, and even sweat tops are hitting the high street again, as though we've gone back to the 1990's, yet there seems to be even more choice with what we can wear out and about than ever before. Trainers and gym shoes are also a perfectly acceptable fashion item, even when teamed with a dress or skirt, as demonstrated recently by Bella Hadid in Los Angeles, wearing white trainers, trendy sunglasses, a black sporty Adidas midi dress and a back pack. It seems that comfort is becoming more enticing than class and elegance in modern day fashion, and who are we to argue otherwise?
Â
Beyonce is one of the most recent celebrities to join the craze, launching her own athleisure line: Ivy Park. She claims to be using her new fashion line to encourage women all over the globe to love their body. If Beyonce is on the band wagon, is there really any possibility it could be anything but successful?

So it seems we can be comfortable, fashionable and save time with outfit changes with this latest fashion. Anything that saves time (and washing) is a winner in my books, so long live athleisure!
