Loving your body
At one time or another, we’ve all wished our bodies were different, or worried about what we see as our imperfections. Although we might try and change how we look, it’s sometimes just as important to change how we feel, and to learn to love our bodies again.
Here, we talk about some ways to love yourself and feel confident in your own body:
Focus on the bits you like
What are your favourite things about your body? Think of 10 and write them down. If you can think of more, even better. Now, whenever you look in the mirror, make sure you go through all of these things before even considering what you don’t like. You’ll be amazed how much better you feel about yourself if you do.
Beauty isn’t just skin deep
Think about the people you love and the people you find yourself attracted to. Do you feel this way because of the way they look, or because of other traits, such as their kindness or their sense of humour? People will perceive you the exact same way, and if you are a warm and generous person, people will be naturally more drawn to you.
Compliment yourself
This might sound silly, but standing in front of a mirror and telling yourself, out loud, what you like about yourself is a very powerful way of increasing your self-confidence. Not only will you reinforce positive thoughts, you will also become better at accepting compliments from others.
Accept yourself
It might not sound easy, but sometimes you have to accept that you cannot be perfect. It shows strength and maturity to accept that there are things that aren’t perfect about your body – and to decide to love yourself anyway.
Finally, if you love yourself, it will make it easier for other people to love you too. Try and spend some time learning to appreciate who you are – you deserve it!
